Restored Adidas Predator Precision Sg “CL-Edition”

About one month ago I bought myself these used Adidas Predator Precision Sg in the sought after “Champions League” edition. I paid £50+shipping and I knew back then that these boots got some potential, although they looked quite beaten up. But it’s always fun with some small projects right?

The issues the boots had was:

  • The aluminium studs were totally broken
  • The white colour was faded
  • The silver colour from the stripes were faded
  • The soleplate was coming off in some parts

All these issues were fixed step by step. Every project starts with a good clean up!

Then the studs were replaced with new ones and the parts off the soleplate that were coming off I simply heated up the plastic and slowly pressed it back on place by using two-component glue. After this it was time for the paintjob. Luckly I found few years back a great local airbrush artist (maalinetti.com) in my home city who also does these kind of jobs.

The final result was perfect! This is how they turned up!

It’s always worth to restore old boots if possible!

Happy to be featured by @unisportstore They gonna have a feature involving football boots sent in by collectors from around the world! Every collector has a chance to tell a story with connection to the boots that are going to be featured at the @worldsbestfootballstore in Køpenhagen! 👊🏻

Here is the boots I decided to send in and the story that is followed by them!

My story!

Let’s start with the fact that I have always loved to play football, everything I done I somehow relate it to football. I joined a registered club in quite late age, as 12 years old, when kids usually start in a club as 6-7 yers old.I improved fast in my career, all thanks to many hours of own practice. Already as 14 years old I were invited to play with the adults first team in BK-46.

Today I have been playing 9 years as semi-proffesional in Finnish 2nd division. My possition on the field is left wingback or left midfielder.

My football boots history.

My very first football boots were a pair of Nike Tiempo that my parents bought to me from a local grocery store. As my feet grew I had to get another pair. This time I got the boots free from a friend of mine, a pair of used Puma Kings and they happened to be 2 sizes too big.

Soon in a age of 15 I started to notice that I were interested in the design of football boots, even in some history and developement of boots.

At this time I wore a pair of Adidas Predator Manias followed by Adidas F50+ “Spiderweb” and Nike Mercurial Vapor II. Then in 2006 I continued with the Nike Mercurial Vapor III and since then I have been wearing Nike Mercurial! And why I do that: I got narrow feet and one of my strengths has been speed, so I like the close to ball feel with the Mercurials.

Two boots that started it all!

When I was 13 years old I made a wishlist for christmas. On that list there was a pair of Adidas Predator Precision. The most beautiful boot I had ever seen! I cut the ad from a newspaper and glued on my wishlist, hoping to get a pair for christmas. Sadly it never happened. This because the Precisions were an old model and sold out in Decenber 2002. So the christmas was ruined haha.

The second boot that is a big part of my life is Nike Mercurial Vapor I. Released in 2002, the same year that I started football. First years I wore Nike Tiempo, Puma King and Adidas Predator, but they didn’t feel alright. So in 2003 I had the opportunity to try a pair of Nike Mercurial Vapor I and they were spot on! The look, the touch and the lightness was perfect.

Favourite Player and Team.

All began during the 2002 World Cup in Japan & South Korea. I were watching France playing on the TV and I asked my parents which player should I follow? Mom replied: “Watch Zidane play!” From that day Zidane was my favourite player and idol!

My favourite team became Real Madrid, simply as Zidane played there.

Once Zidane got retired from football I kept supporting Real Madrid. A new idol for me became Benzema, a bit similiar history as Zidane.

EURO boots!

The Euro 2016 has started and it’s time to look back at some old boots released during Euro’s! The old boots really bring back old memories and stories.

I have picked the following boots as they remind me of the Euros 1996-2012:

  • Adidas Predator Touch Fg 1996
  • Nike Mercurial Match Fg 2000
  • Adidas Predator Precision Sg 2000
  • Nike Mercurial Vapor II Fg 2004
  • Adidas Predator Pulse Sg 2004
  • Nike Mercurial Vapor SL Fg 2008
  • Adidas Predator Powerswerve Sg 2008
  • Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII Fg 2012

For me the favourite boots are the Adidas Predator Precision Sg from Euro 2000 in Netherlands and Nike Mercurial Vapor SL Fg from Euro 2008 in Austria & Switzerland!

Adidas Predator Precision Sg “Platinum”

One of my favourite boots of all time, the Adidas Predator Precision! As previous years Adidas used to release a new boot every Championship year. Adidas Predator Precision was released in 2000 during the Euro Cup 2000 in France. A major update from the earlier Predator models was that Adidas made the rubber fins thinner, more like rubber ribs that gave more swerve and power.

Adidas also added a fold over tongue which was locked to the boot with Velcro!

David Beckham was one of the big names that made this boot very popular. Everyone remembers the stunning last minute freekick goal against Greece in Euro 2000 wearing a white pair of the Predator Precision!

So what Adidas did was basically the first David Beckham signature boot, the Adidas Predator Precision Platinum Sg 2000! This boot was released in limited numbers and only in United Kingdom, France, Germany, USA and Japan. They were limited to 333 pairs in each country and they are individually numbered. They included a stunning presentation box made of aluminium, blocket and a holographic card with the same number as the boot!

I had been looking for these boots almost entire time that I have been collecting, since 2006. And finally last year I found a pair, numbered UK169/333.

Best Predators ever?

Adidas made an end to the epic journey of Predator in 2015, for me I think the Predator era ended already after the last Predator made of leather, the Predator Adipower in 2011!

All of us football boot fans out there, we all have some favourites in the Predator range? Although I have been playing in Nike Mercurial the last 10 years I have always had respect for the Adidas Predator! I used to play in Precision, Mania and Pulse back in the days. Ofcourse as a passion for football boots I have also tried out almost every single boot in the Predator range.

So these are my three favourites:

  • Adidas Predator Accelerator 1998
  • Adidas Predator Precision 2000
  • Adidas Predator Mania 2002

A part from these three pairs I also recommend to try:

  • Adidas Predator Pulse 2004
  • Adidas Predator Powerswerve 2008

3. Top10 Pickups of 2015

Top10 Pickups of 2015! #top10pickups
3. Adidas Predator Precision 2000 Sg “Platinum” UK169/333. There is not much I need to say about these, every bootcollector knows how hard these are to find, especially brand new, with the holographic card and aluminium box! I’m a big fan of Predator Precision and I had been looking for these almost my entire time that I been collecting, since 2006.

These were released only in United Kingdom, Germany, France and any other country?? And I guess these were one of the first David Beckham signature boots!
